Memoirs of Mandela-Global Icon shares his 27 prison years

Two decades of freedom cannot compensate for the 27 years that Nelson Mandela spent in jail.Years of heartache, loneliness and pain of being away from the family, have been captured in his memoir, that was released in October this year. The iconic leader was sent to jail for opposing apartheid in South Africa and was released in 1990.
This new collection reveals the private man behind him,who made tremendous personal sacrifices for the cause he believed in.It also has the notes and letters which he copied into notebooks during his time in prison. They not only reveal his concern about being portrayed as a saint, but also his feelings of helplessness when his mother Winnie Mandela was detained by the police. In a letter to his two daughters,he wrote,'For long you may live like orphans without your own home and parents, without natural love, affection and protection mummy used to give you'(Aww..).Most of the notes and letters were actually confiscated by authorities at that time, but was later returned to him by a former security officer. In this compilation,we come across the agony he felt of being unable to help his followers.'I feel i have been soaked in gall, every part of me,my flesh, bloodstream, bone and soul,so bitter am i to be completely powerless to help you.'Nelson Mandela, who is presently residing in South Africa,is now 92 years old and rarely makes public appearances now.( I so wanna meet him!)
